Day After Palin’s Speech, Stocks Plummet

In response to a great political speech by Governor Palin, making it clear that she is not an idiot (only the devil), and Obama still has a chance to lose, the Dow Industrials responded by plummeting 340 points in the worst day since June.

Obviously, the causation is not true, but there was no reason given by the pundits for such a wild swing of pessimism.  It’d be pretty awesome if everyone was so pissed off they sold their stock and headed for the hills.

Sorry For All the Palin Posts–It’s just too good

This time Governor Palin was videotaped at a church saying (roughly) that they should pray to god for a new pipeline, and Iraq is a task from god.  No Kidding

Being Good on a Minor League Team Doesn’t Mean Much

Sarah Palin’s approval ratings for her position of governor of Alaska are excellent.  But does being well liked in Alaska have any relevance to being the leader of the nation?  Alaska has a quarter of the population of Brooklyn.  When she won election she received about as many votes as there were people in Denver watching Obama’s speech.  When Obama was the editor of the Harvard Law Review, she was dabbling in sports journalism at a TV station in Anchorage.

Hmmm there….. I think you might need a little more seasoning.

***** EDIT/UPDATE *********

Palin’s 17 yr old daughter is preggers (five months) and planning on marrying the father.  Now, I won’t comment on the intelligence of anyone involved, but someone who’s plan in life is baby making at 17, certainly does not share my point of view.  And if it wasn’t planned, then she’s an idiot.  And so is her mom for allowing her to make such a mistake.  (sorry, couldn’t help it)

**** further update *****

I don’t want to make it sound like I’m being too harsh on Ms. Palin.  Obviously, young people make mistakes, and Ms. Palin cannot be there at every second–nor should she.  The point I would make though, is that since pregnancy is such a monumental event in the life of anyone, let alone a 17yr old, I would wish it to be a thoroughly thought out decision.  And since it is so easy to not get pregnant if one has the proper sex-ed, my inclination is to say the Ms. Palin was lacking in making clear to her daughter how high the stakes can be when having sex, and how easy it is to prevent unintended pregnancy.

***** extra update ****

I found this comment on a NYTimes blog post:

It is ridiculous to be a religious conservative, preaching to Americans about what we should and should not do in our private, sexual lives, when you cannot even raise a daughter who can gradudate high school without getting knocked up.

Private behavior is private behavior, but Republicans have attempted at every turn to make it public, and to wag a shaming finger at anyone who doesnt live up to theri standards. It seems they can dish it out, but cannot take it.
