Judge Slaps Ted Kennedy

…And by that, I mean he threw out[reg. req.] four of the five complaints in the lawsuit against Cape Wind and the Massachusets Secretary of Energy.

Cape Wind has been trying to build a 130 turbine wind farm off the cost of Cape Cod in Massachusets.  Ted Kennedy, and various other rich spoiled white guys started pulling a NIMBY, and complained that the turbines would spoil their views (which is hardly the case).

Wind power generation is especially effective over the ocean, where there are no impediments to strong, dependable winds like hills and trees.  And while the engineering for offshore wind is not yet on par with conventional land-based wind, it seems quite ridiculous to me for Kennedy to claim wrongdoing against a wealthy summer-home region which should be more concerned about rising sea levels.

Phillies Buy Wind Energy

The Philadelphia Phillies made the largest purchase of renewable energy of any professional sports franchise in the country. Last week, in an agreement with the EPA, National Resource Defense Council, Green-e, and WindStreet Energy, the Phillies made a purchase of 20 million kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to planting approximately 100,000 trees.

And congratulations to EPA Stephen L. Johnson, for a great quote: “EPA applauds the Philadelphia Phillies for ‘playing ball’ and protecting our environment by purchasing green power,” said EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson. “By being the first MLB team to join the Green Power Partnership, the Phillies have hit a grand slam for the environment.”
